History of the Institute

On Professor József ZSOLNAI’s initiative, the Education Research Institute was established in Pápa on 1 July 1999. It comprised two units, The Research Institute of Education and the National Centre for Value-Based Education, which coordinated research with institutions of public education.

The Research Institute of Education in Pápa merged with the Department of Education and Psychology in Veszprém and thus became the Institute of Education in the Faculty of Humanitites, University of Pannonia in 2007. The seat of the Research Institute of Education was located in Pápa, while its unit, the Teacher Training Centre operated in Veszprém. The Teacher Training Center started to work independently in 2013.

The Institute of Education played a significant role in the foundation of the Multidisciplinary Doctoral School of Humanities (Linguistics and Education) accredited as The Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2003, which operated till 2010.

The Institute of Education received accreditation for both an undergraduate and a graduate study program in Education (Pedagogy BA and Education MA) in 2006 and 2008. In 2019 it expanded its repertoire of graduate degree study programs, training experts in Mental Health in Relations and Community Development (MA).
